Iran: Parliament Passes SCO Membership Bill
Iran’s parliament passed the bill for Iran to become a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) with a high vote on Nov. 27. A spokesman for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee said the Iranian government would then need to approve relevant documents to pave the way for Iran to become a member of the SCO.

Vietnam: Tuna export growth rate slows
The Vietnam Association of Aquatic Export and Processing (VASEP) said that the growth rate of Vietnam’s tuna exports slowed down due to inflation, with exports amounting to about 76 million U.S. dollars in November, an increase of only 4 percent compared to the same period in 2021, according to a recent report by the Vietnam Agricultural Newspaper. Countries such as the United States, Egypt, Mexico, the Philippines and Chile have seen varying degrees of decline in the volume of tuna imports from Vietnam.

Uzbekistan: Extending the period of zero tariff preferences for some imported food products
In order to protect the daily needs of residents, curb price increases and reduce the impact of inflation, President Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan recently signed a presidential decree to extend the period of zero tariff preferences for 22 categories of imported food such as meat, fish, dairy products, fruits and vegetable oils until July 1, 2023, and to exempt imported wheat flour and rye flour from tariffs.

Singapore: Sustainable Trade Index ranks third in Asia-Pacific
The Lausanne School of Management and the Hanley Foundation recently released the Sustainable Trade Index report, which has three assessment indicators, namely economic, social and environmental, according to the Chinese version of the Union-Tribune. Singapore’s Sustainable Trade Index ranked third in the Asia-Pacific region and fifth in the world. Among these indicators, Singapore ranked second globally with 88.8 points for the economic indicator, just behind Hong Kong, China.

Nepal: IMF asks country to revisit import ban
According to the Kathmandu Post, Nepal is still imposing import bans on cars, cell phones, alcohol and motorcycles, which will last until Dec. 15. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says such bans do not have any positive impact on the economy and has asked Nepal to take other monetary measures to deal with its foreign exchange reserves as soon as possible. Nepal has begun a re-examination of the previous seven-month ban on imports.

South Sudan: First energy and minerals chamber established
South Sudan recently established its first Chamber of Energy and Minerals (SSCEM), a non-governmental and non-profit body that advocates for the efficient use of the country’s natural resources, according to the Juba Echo. Most recently, the chamber has been actively involved in initiatives to support an increased local share of the oil sector and environmental audits.
